JACKSON, GINNIE LEAD UNA PAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 60-57

CLINTON, Miss., – Dimario Jackson's three-pointer with 1.1 seconds remaining lifted the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to a 60-57 win over Mississippi College on Saturday. The win gives UNA an 8-7 overall record and 3-6 mark in Gulf South Conference play.
 
Jackson's shot came after the Choctaws rallied from a 10-point deficit to take a 57-55 lead with 1:29 remaining. A basket by Johnell Ginnie tied the game before Mississippi College missed two go-ahead shots in the final minute of play. After Austin Timms grabbed a defensive rebound on the second miss, Jackson connected from the right wing to give the Lions the lead.
 
The ensuing MC inbounds pass sailed the length of the court and out of bounds, give possession back to the Lions. UNA was able to run out the clock to secure the win.
 
Jackson and Ginnie finished with 20 points each to lead North Alabama. Ginnie, who started for the first time this season, scored the first six points of the game as the Lions jumped out to an early lead. The junior from Jacksonville, Fla., eight points in the opening 20 minutes as UNA took a 29-26 lead into the break.
 
UNA opened the second half on a 9-2 run to grab a 38-28 lead with 16:51 remaining. The Lions, however, were unable to pull away. MC shot 42.3 percent from the floor in the second half to stay within striking distance.
 
The Lions led by seven before a 10-3 MC run tied the game at 53-53 with 4:34 remaining. The two teams traded free throws before a basket by Tristan Hunter gave the Choctaws the 57-55 advantage.
 
Jackson finished with a trio of three-pointers on the day while Ginnie also added seven rebounds. Stacey Mack led Mississippi College (4-9 overall, 1-8 GSC) with 17 points.
 
UNA will return home to host Lee on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
