BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama will open play in the 2017 Gulf South Conference Baseball Tournament on Saturday, May 6, at 1:30 p.m. against West Florida in Cleveland, Miss. The tournament is being hosted No. 1 seed, Delta State.

Each of the eight teams in the field will play three games in their respective pools on May 6-8, and the two pool winners will meet in championship game on May 9 at 6 p.m.

UNA will play West Florida on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., Mississippi College on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and West Alabama on Monday at 1:30 p.m. The Lions won two-out-of-three games from each of those opponents during the regular-season.

North Alabama is making its first GSC Baseball Tournament appearance since 2014 and has an all-time 45-38 record in the event. The Lions have won five previous GSC baseball crows in 1984, 1989, 1993, 1997 and 1999.

This will be UNA's sixth GSC Tournament appearance under current head coach Mike Keehn. The Lions are 8-10 in GSC Tournament games under Keehn. Three of UNA's last four tournament losses came in extra innings.

North Alabama carries a 32-18 overall record into the post-season, marking UNA's most wins in a season since 2012. The Lions were 21-12 in GSC play, finishing third. West Alabama earned the No. 2 seed at 21-11, followed by UNA at No. 3, Valdosta State fourth, Union fifth, West Florida sixth, Mississippi College seventh and Alabama-Huntsville eighth.
