TROY PULLS AWAY FOR 77-58 WIN OVER UNA MEN

TROY – After taking a 35-28 lead into the half, Troy shot 59 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes to pull away for a 77-58 home win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team on Saturday. Four players reached double figures in scoring as the Trojans evened their record at 3-3 on the year. With the loss, UNA falls to 2-4.
 
After trailing by as man as eight early in the contest, the Lions cut the lead to 30-28 late in the first half. A three-point basket by Kendarius Smith made the score 30-28 with 2:14 remaining. Troy was able to close the half with five straight points to take a 35-28 lead into the break.
 
The Trojans opened the second half with a 6-2 spurt to stretch the lead to double digits. After another trey by Smith cut the lead to eight, Jamari Blackmon hit one of two free throws to make the score 41-34 at the 16:27 mark.
 
UNA, however, would get no closer. Troy got a dunk on the ensuing possession, then followed with a three-pointer to push the lead to double digits for good. For the game, the Trojans shot 52.6 percent from the floor, but went 16-of-27 in the second half while the Lions connected on just 9-of-25 shot attempts over the final 20 minutes.
 
Smith led North Alabama with 16 points, reaching double figures for the third consecutive game. Blackmon, a freshman from Hoover, finished with 15 points. Emanuel Littles also led all players with 12 rebounds for the Lions.
 
UNA will play at Toledo on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (EST) at Savage Arena on the Toledo campus.
