FLORENCE – Brittany Panetti scored 29 points and Kenysha Coulson added a double-double as the University of North Alabama women's basketball team improved to 8-1 on the season with a 79-48 home win over Martin Methodist Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. UNA will play one more non-conference game before turning its attention to its upcoming ASUN opener at North Florida in January.

Against Martin Methodist, Panetti missed her first shot of the game in the opening minute of play. The junior from Katy, Texas, then hit 12 straight shots to reach her season-high point total. She finished the game 12-of-13 from the floor and continues to lead the ASUN with a 77.1 shooting percentage on the year.

After taking a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lions used a 24-7 second-quarter spurt to take control. Panetti scored 11 points in the period while the Redhawks connected on just 2-of-15 shots from the floor. A three-point basket by Emma Wallen gave UNA a 40-18 lead at the half.

After the break, North Alabama stretched the lead to 26 points before Martin Methodist closed the third quarter on a 7-0 to make the score 58-39. The Lions, however, opened the fourth quarter on an 11-3 run and the visitors would get no closer than 25 the rest of the way. UNA hit 15-of-22 field goal attempts in the second half.

Coulson finished the game with 10 points and 12 rebounds to notch her first double-double of the season. Ivy Wallen added 14 points while Emma Wallen tossed in 13 points on the night. As a team, the Lions recorded 19 assists and shot 62.7 percent from the floor.

North Alabama will play at Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 17 before opening ASUN Conference play 19 days later at North Florida. Tip-off against MVSU is set for 6:30 p.m. in Itta Bena, Miss.
