FLORENCE -- The University of North Alabama got its third consecutive complete-game shutout over Christian Brothers as
Shane Priest threw a three-hitter to lead the Lions to a 12-0 win at Mike Lane Field.
In the three-game series with CBU, UNA's three starting pitchers allowed no runs on just eight hits over 23 innings with just three walks and 24 strikeouts. It is the second time this season that
Tyler Joyner,
Lane Wallace and Priest have thrown consecutive shutouts and the 2018 UNA pitching staff has now tied the school record for shutouts in a season with nine, equaling the mark set in 2006.
North Alabama has now won nine games in a row and has a 29-12 overall record. The Lions are 18-6 and in second place in the GSC standings.
In the series finale, UNA scored 12 runs on 14 hits and drew 13 walks from CBU pitchers. The Lions scored five runs in the first, added single runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, before closing out the scoring with two in the seventh.
Priest (6-1) allowed just three hits in seven innings with one walk and six strikeouts. It was his second complete game of the season.
Brandt Holland led UNA at the plate, going three-for-four with two runs scored and four runs batted in.
Tate Mathis also had three hits and
Davis Elliott and
Kyle Hubbuch added two each.
North Alabama hosts Auburn-Montgomery in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
