FLORENCE, Ala. –  University of North Alabama Head Baseball Coach Mike Keehn picked up his 300^th career win as the Lions downed West Georgia 4-3 in a key Gulf South Conference contest at Mike Lane Field.
 
UNA trailed 2-0 before scoring three in the fifth inning. The Lions added an insurance run in the seventh and West Georgia scored a run in the eighth to pull within a run of UNA but Channing Wall shut the door on the comeback effort.
 
With the win, UNA is now 23-12 overall and 13-6 in the GSC. West Georgia is 21-13 and 9-10 in league play.
 
Keehn, who spent 20 years as an assistant coach at UNA before becoming head coach in 2009, is the second winning coach in the school's baseball history and has averaged more than 30 wins per season.
 
UNA starter Tyler Joyner (6-3) pitched seven and a third innings to get his sixth win of the season. He allowed two unearned runs in the third inning and a run in the seventh. He allowed five hits, walked one and struckout 10. Wall allowed a run-scoring single to the first batter that he faced then shut the Wolves down. It was the only hit he allowed in an inning and two-third and he struckout two in recording his sxith save of the season.
 
Down 2-0, UNA scored three runs in the fifth off UWG starter Ryan Parker. Logan Carter doubled and Ben Cooley singled. A T.J. Lockett single gave UNA its first run and Kyle Hubbuch's two-run single gave the Lions a 3-2 lead.
 
Lockett singled, scored second and scored on a fielder's choice by Tate Mathis in the seventh to make it 4-2.
 
North Alabama and West Georgia play a double-header on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. at Mike Lane Field.
