FIRST-PLACE LIBERTY ENDS UNA WINNING STREAK

LYNCHBURG, Va., – Liberty maintained first place in the ASUN standings Monday evening with a 72-47 home victory over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team. The Flames moved to 17-4 overall and 6-0 in the league standings while UNA had its four-game winning streak snapped, falling to 7-14 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
 
After taking a 26-19 lead into the break, Liberty shot 73.7 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes. The Flames hit their first eight shots from the floor in the second half. A basket at the 12:54 mark gave the home team a 46-27 lead. North Alabama would get no closer than 16 the rest of the way.
 
Jamari Blackmon and Christian Agnew scored 13 points each to lead UNA. Kendall Stafford added 11 points, all coming in the second half.
 
The two teams exchanged runs early in the contest. After the Flames scored the game's first eight points, UNA answered with an 8-2 spurt of its own. Liberty led 15-8 midway through the first half before the Lions scored nine straight points during a 4:46 span to grab their first lead of the night.
 
Blackmon scored six points during the run, including a basket and free throw with 6:13 remaining to give UNA a 17-15 lead. The Lions, however, went 1-for-7 from the floor with four turnovers the rest of the half. Liberty answered with eight straight points and held UNA scoreless for 4:25 to take control at the break.
 
Lovell Cabbil led Liberty with 20 points on the night. The Flames also held a 38-25 rebounding advantage.
 
UNA will return home for its next ASUN game. The Lions will host Kennesaw State on Thursday. Tip-off for the single game is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
