LIONS RACE PAST NJIT 77-54

NEWARK, N.J, –North Alabama used a fast start to take control early in a 77-54 rout over host NJIT Sunday afternoon in ASUN Conference women's basketball action. The fifth straight win gives UNA a 15-2 overall record with a 6-1 mark in league play, and also completes the season sweep over the Highlanders.
 
Emma Wallen scored 11 of her game-high 23 points in the first quarter as the Lions built an early 18-10 lead. The junior from Anderson connected on a trio of three-point baskets in the opening frame and UNA never trailed.
 
A trey by Wallen capped an early 10-2 run as North Alabama grabbed a 16-6 lead with 2:59 remaining in the half. The Highlanders were able to get within eight points in the final two minutes of play before baskets by Olivia Graham and Darby Madden pushed the lead to 31-19 at the break.
 
The Lions extended their lead by outscoring the home team in the third and fourth quarters. UNA shot 55.6 percent from the floor in the second half.
 
After the Highlanders cut the lead to 40-30 midway through the third quarter, Katelyn Nunley scored seven straight points during an 11-2 UNA run to push the lead to 51-32 at the 2:55 mark. Two free throws by Brittany Panetti later gave the Lions a 57-37 lead heading into the final period.
 
The lead continued to grow in the fourth quarter. A three-pointer by Wallen gave UNA its largest lead of the game at 65-39 with 6:15 remaining.
 
Panetti finished with 12 points and eight rebounds on the day. Nunley turned in a season-high 11 points, while Ivy Wallen just missed another double-double with 10 points and nine assists.
 
Danielle Tunstall led NJIT (5-14 overall, 2-4 ASUN) with 19 points.
 
UNA will officially complete the first half of ASUN play on Saturday when the Lions take on Lipscomb on the road. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. at Allen Arena on the LU campus in Nashville, Tenn.
