RALLY COMES UP SHORT FOR UNA VOLLEYBALL AT LIBERTY

LYNCHBURG, Va., – After rallying to win two sets and force a fifth-and-deciding game at Liberty, the University of North Alabama volleyball team came up two points short in the last frame to fall to Liberty 3-2 for the second time this season. With the 15-25, 18-25, 26-24, 25-22, 13-15 defeat, UNA is 3-23 on the season and 1-12 in ASUN Conference play. The loss officially eliminated the Lions from making the upcoming conference tournament.
 
Against Liberty, UNA recorded 13 total blocks to stay within striking distance. Sarah-Elizabeth Williams hit .344 and led the way with 14 kills for the Lions. The freshman from Chesterfield, Mo., added four blocks and had her best outing since the last time UNA went five sets against the Flames on Oct. 4 at Flowers Hall.
 
Following losses in the first two sets, the Lions were able to rally in the third set to stay alive. UNA trailed 17-14 before a kill by Anna Katherine Griggs and two straight Liberty attack errors tied the game. From there, the set featured seven more ties, including a 24-24 deadlock to set up the final run by the Lions.  After a service error against the Flames game UNA a set point, a kill by Breylee Linder gave the Lions the 26-24 victory.
 
Liberty scored the first four points of the fourth set before North Alabama rallied again. UNA took its first lead at 8-7 and reached set point before a block by Williams and Griggs sent the match to a deciding set.
 
The two teams traded runs in the fifth game. With the score tied at 13-13, Liberty got a kill and a solo block to secure the victory.
 
Griggs hit .440 and also reached double figures with 11 kills for UNA. She also had five blocks. Maggie Sullivan also turned in eight kills and a match-high eight blocks.
 
Mackenzie Sullivan also had 11 digs while Linder finished with a double-double that included 18 assists and 11 digs. Mariana Trujillo produced a team-high 26 assists for the Lions.
 
UNA will close the season with three straight home matches, beginning Saturday, Nov. 9, against NJIT. Match time is set for noon at Flowers Hall.
