UNA VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTS NJIT 3-2

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama volleyball team got victories in the fourth and fifth sets to rally for a 3-2 win over NJIT Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. With the 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-15, 15-12 victory, the Lions improve to 4-23 overall and 2-12 in ASUN Conference play.
 
Seven different players had at least six kills on the day as UNA setters Breylee Linder and Mariana Trujillo recorded 23 assists each. Sarah-Elizabeth Williams hit .344 and had a match-high 13 kills.
 
Trailing 2-1 in the match, North Alabama stayed alive with a dominating fourth set. The Lions hit .433 in the frame and got four kills from Christina Ellwanger.
 
In the fifth set, UNA overcame an 11-7 deficit to get the win. After an NJIT service error, back-to-back kills by Alyssa Dutton and a block by Williams and Maggie Sullivan tied the game. The two teams then traded points before the Lions scored the final three to get the win.
 
Dutton finished with 10 kills and 15 digs. Anna Katherine Griggs added eight kills and a block, while Ellwanger, Sullivan and Morgan Madasz had seven kills each. Sullivan also had a match-high seven blocks on the day.
 
Defensively, Mackenzie Sullivan led all players with 26 digs. Claire Bullington also had 11 digs while Trujillo completed a double-double with 10 digs.
 
UNA will host Stetson on Thursday, Nov. 15. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
