LATE RUN LIFTS STETSON PAST UNA WOMEN

DELAND, Fla., – Stetson closed the game on a 23-9 run to grab a 69-59 home win over North Alabama Saturday in ASUN Conference women's basketball action. The third straight loss leaves UNA with a 17-6 overall record, including an 8-5 mark in conference play.
 
After trailing by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, the Lions took a 50-46 lead with a free throw by Brittany Panetti with 7:13 remaining. The Hatters responded with nine straight points to go ahead 55-50 and never relinquished the lead.
 
UNA got within two on a three-point basket by Keynsha Coulson, but had five turnovers over the final 3:29 of playing time.
 
Stetson shot 45.5 percent from the floor and scored 40 points in the paint. Both teams struggled from three-point range. The Hatters were 3-of-17 from long range while UNA hit four three-pointers on 21 attempts.
 
After the two teams went to the half tied 29-29, Stetson opened the third quarter on a 14-2 run. A three-pointer at the 6:11 mark gave the home team a 43-31 lead.
 
The Lions, however, slowly chipped away at the deficit. After a trey by Ivy Wallen tied the game at 46-46, UNA regained the lead on a three-pointer by Ansley Eubank with 7:50 remaining. Brittany Panetti later hit 1-of-2 free throws to push the lead to 50-46 before North Alabama went cold.
 
UNA went 4:18 without scoring while Stetson began to take control.
 
Panetti led the Lions with 20 points. Wallen added 18 points while Eubank scored 12 points on the day. Megan Vincent led Stetson (15-12 overall, 10-3 ASUN) with a game-high 21 points.
 
UNA will return home to host Jacksonville on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
