BEACH VOLLEYBALL SPLITS WITH MOREHEAD STATE

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team split a double-header with Morehead State on the final day of the regular season Saturday at home. After dropping the opening match by a 3-2 score, the Lions rallied to earn the split with a 3-2 win of their own in the second contest.

UNA is now 10-10 on the year and 4-4 in ASUN Conference play. League officials have formed a committee to determine the six teams who qualify for the upcoming conference tournament next weekend in DeLand, Fla. The 2019 bracket will be released at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

On Saturday, the two teams proved to be evenly matched throughout both contests. In the opener, the two teams split the first four matches, setting up a clinching scenario at the No. 1 position. MSU's Allison Whitten and Hannah Keating rallied for the win over UNA's Sophia Brandstetter and Paula Klemperer.

After the UNA duo won the opening set 21-15, MSU posted a 21-18 win to force a tiebreaker before winning the match with a 15-11 victory.

North Alabama won three of the first four matches of the second contest to clinch the match early. After the Lions posted wins at the No. 5 and No. 4 spots, Morehead got on the board with a victory at the No. 2 position. UNA's Ava Carnley and Libby Jump then clinched for UNA with a 21-18, 21-13 victory at No. 3. With the win, the duo improved to 16-4 on the season.

At the No. 5 position, North Alabama's Genesis Benítez and Ana Gabriela Pacheco finished the day with a pair of victories.
