UNA OPENS 2020 BASEBALL SEASON AT HOME FRIDAY

FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama baseball team begins its second season of NCAA Division I competition at 3 p.m. Friday when the Lions open a four-game series at Mike Lane Field against Ohio University.

The Lions and Bobcats will play a single game Friday, a double-header Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and the final game on Sunday at noon.

Right-handed senior Hunter Davidson of Pinson, Ala., will start the Friday game for the Lions against Ohio's right-hander Eamon Horwedel. Davidson was 3-4 last season with a 4.35 earned run average.

This will be the first baseball game ever between North Alabama and Ohio University in baseball.

North Alabama is 4-1 all-time against schools from the state of Ohio, while in Division II. UNA is 2-0 against Urbana, 1-1- against Wright State and 1-0 against Xavier. The Lions downed Urbana 5-3 and 6-1 in Florence in 2009. Split a double-header with Wright State in Florence in 1984, winning 4-1 and losing 6-5, and won a neutral site game over Xavier in 1987, 14-0.

UNA returns 20 lettermen, including seven position starters and nine pitchers from 2019.
