UNA WOMEN’S TENNIS NAMES SEVEN TO ALL-DECADE TEAM

FLORENCE – A total of seven former University of North Alabama standouts have been selected to the UNA Women's Tennis Team of the Decade for the 2010s.

The women's tennis team is the ninth of 11 all-decade teams that will be announced in the coming weeks to honor UNA's top individual performers for the period from 2010-19. The selections were made by a panel of UNA athletic department personnel.

The group represents players who won All-Gulf South Conference honors a total of 15 times, included two GSC Freshmen of the Year, seven GSC All-Academic picks and two GSC All-Decade selections. As a team, the Lions posted 101 victories during the decade and advanced to the 2011 NCAA Division II tournament. Members of the UNA Team of the Decade include Mackenzie Bishop, Lenka Hola, Nina Linke, Olivera Ngouabeu, Victoria Rees, Bruna Vieira and Mallory Waites.

A native of Florence, Ala., Bishop posted three straight first team All-GSC honors from 2011-13. The daughter of UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop went 35-19 in singles play with every match coming at either the No. 1 or No. 2 position. Her doubles record was 36-17, including every match at the top position during her junior and senior seasons. Bishop was also a member of UNA's 2011 NCAA Tournament team and posted GSC All-Academic honors in 2012 and 2013. She was also recently named to the Gulf South Conference Team of the Decade.

Hola, from Brno, Czech Republic, was a three-year letterman, earning all-conference all three years. She earned second-team honors in 2009 and was first team All-GSC as a junior and a senior after posting a 26-6 singles record over her final two seasons. Hola was also a member of UNA's 2011 NCAA Tournament team and received GSC All-Academic honors the same season.

A Stuttgart, Germany native, Linke played four years at UNA, including her first two in the decade. She was the 2017 Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Year and earned first-team honors the same season. She later added second team All-GSC honors in 2018 and posted a two-year singles record of 25-11. Linke was part of UNA's first Division I team as the Lions made the move to the ASUN Conference in the 2018-19 season.

Ngouabeu, from Paris, France, was a first All-Gulf South Conference selection as a true freshman in 2014 before claiming second-team honors in 2015 and 2017. She played all but two of her 66 career singles matches at the No. 1 spot, posting a 33-33 record. She also earned Academic All-GSC honors in 2015.

Rees finished her four-year career in 2012, earning first team All-Gulf South Conference honors in each of her three final seasons. The Cheltenham, England, native played all 51 matches at UNA at No. 1 singles during that span, posting a 33-18 record. She helped lead the Lions to a berth in the 2011 NCAA Division II South Regional and also earned GSC All-Academic honors in 2011 and 2012. Rees was also recently a GSC All-Decade selection.
