FLORENCE, Ala. (August 18, 2023) – The University of North Alabama football team wrapped up the first week of classes with a practice on Friday afternoon at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex, marking eight days away from the FCS Kickoff against Mercer on Saturday, August 26 in Montgomery, Ala.

Today's UNA Football Notebook spotlight shines on the tight ends and h-backs.

There are six players in this grouping, led by returning lettermen
Jakob Cummings and
Kaleb Heatherly. Cummings, a redshirt senior from Auburn, Ala. In his fifth season at UNA, moved over from linebacker to h-back this fall and will play offense this season. Heatherly played in all 11 games last season, catching 27 passes for 104 yards to average 13.0 yards per catch with a long of 31 yards.

Meanwhile, redshirt junior
Kenny Rawls enters his fifth season at UNA with two years of playing experience, while Arkansas transfer
Erin Outley joined the Lions this past spring. True freshmen
Amarie Rogers and
Nathan Brockway were both added to the mix, as Rogers also comes from the state of Arkansas. Brockway is a former standout at nearby Russellville High School.

This group is led by offensive coordinator and tight ends coach
Kevin Wewers, who spent the 2022 season working with Coach
Brent Dearmon as an offensive analyst. Wewers also work on staffs with Dearmon at Bethel and Kansas.

"This is a great group of men — a lot of characters in there," said Wewers of the tight ends and h-back group. "They love to cut up and have a good time, but when it's time to put the pads on, they are physical and epitomize everything that we're about as an offense."

Today's interviews include Coach Wewers and
Kenny Rawls.
