ATLANTA (September 12, 2023) – University of North Alabama forward Alice Bussey has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week for Sept. 12, the league office announced Tuesday.

Bussey boosted the Lions to victories over Southern Illinois and Jacksonville State, tallying a pair of game-winning goals. 

With 3:30 remaining in a 1-1 game, Alice Bussey netted the go-ahead goal to propel the Lions to a 2-1 victory over Southern Illinois on Sept. 7.

Just three days later, Bussey concluded a run with a stellar shot from outside of the box to give the Lions a 1-0 lead over in-state foe Jacksonville State. Bussey's goal would be the only goal of the match and would serve as the eventual game-winner.

"It was a great week for Alice — I'm really proud of her for earning this award," said North Alabama head coach Chris Walker. "She worked very hard in the offseason, and it's starting to show. Hopefully, she can carry her momentum into ASUN play."

The England native is responsible for six game-winning goals across the last two seasons,  also tallying four braces across the same span.

Bussey leads the ASUN Conference in both shots (34) and shots on goal (17), while being tied for the conference lead with three game-winning goals.

Bussey has now scored a team-best four goals this season, while also leading the Lion squad in points. 

This is the second career ASUN weekly honor for Bussey, following her ASUN Player of the Week selection on August 23, 2022. 

Today marks just the third ASUN Player of the Week selection in school history. Bussey is only the second Lion player to earn the honor, joining Kylie Huey who earned the honors on August 27, 2018. 

UNA opens up ASUN conference play on Thursday, Sept. 14 on the road at Kennesaw State.
