SAVANNAH, Ga. (February 16, 2024) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team opens up the spring slate of golf with The Savannah Intercollegiate on Feb. 17-18 in Savannah, Ga. at the Club at Savannah Harbor. The tournament begins the spring season, which serves as the championship season for NCAA men's golf.

NOTES

The Boys Are Back: The Savannah Intercollegiate will be the first spring tournament for the Lions. The Lions finished up five tournaments in the fall, including a first-place finish at the MartinFed Invitational at Turtle Point in Killen, Ala. UNA also finished third of 13 teams at the Iowa Fall Classic and tied for fifth out of 10 teams at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational.

White Sands Bahamas Recap: The University of North Alabama men's golf team finished the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational at Ocean Club tied for fifth place with in-state foe Jacksonville State. Sebastian Bengtsson led all UNA individuals with an eight-under-par 208, finishing in 16th place. Henry Frizzell and Eric Luo were not far behind, with Frizzell tying for 20th place with a 212 total, while Luo tied for 22nd place with a 213. Chase Kaiser participated as an individual and tied for 31st place with a score of 215 following his four-under-par 68 third round. Andrew Ferworn and Niko Nebout rounded out the North Alabama squad, tying for 37th after both turning in an even card of 216.

Postseason in Sight: This year's ASUN Men's Golf Championship takes place at Highland Oaks golf course in Dothan, Ala. on April 21-23. All 12 ASUN teams will participate in the tournament for a chance at an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. 

Spring Cleaning: Following The Savannah Intercollegiate, the Lions have four more tournaments before moving on to postseason. The Seminole Intercollegiate, Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational, Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Invite and Mountaineer Invitational round out the regular season. All six remaining tournaments will be conducted in different states, including Georgia, Florida, California, South Carolina and West Virginia before playing in the ASUN Championship in Alabama.

Next Match: Following the Savannah Intercollegiate, the Lions travel to Tallahassee, Fla. next month to participate in the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State. The tournament will take place at Seminole Legacy Golf Club on March 11-12.
