NAPA VALLEY, Calif. (March 24, 2024) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team travels to Napa Valley, Calif. to participate in the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational hosted by the PGA Tour Pathway to Progression on March 25-26. The Lions are one of 11 teams participating in the tournament being played at the Silverado Resort.

Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational: The Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational field consists of 11 schools, including Michigan State, Arkansas Pine Bluff, BYU, Central Michigan, Elon, Florida A&M, Howard, Sam Houston State, UConn and Nihon University in Japan. The individual winner of the tournament will earn an exemption into a 2024 Korn Ferry Tour event to be announced at a later date. The Korn Ferry Tour is the developmental tour for the PGA Tour.
Seminole Intercollegiate Recap: UNA tied for ninth place in the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. All five Lion golfers finished within three strokes of each other as North Alabama closed out play among several top ranked opponents.
Sebastian Bengtsson led the Lions with a 226 total, while
Chase Kaiser and
Eric Luo finished one stroke back with totals of 227.
In Impressive Company: In the Seminole Intercollegiate, UNA matched up with three top 15 ranked teams in the country, along with four others ranked in Spikemark's top 100 teams. Ole Miss, Arkansas and Florida State all ranked among the top 12 teams in NCAA Division I Men's Golf while Mississippi State was ranked No. 22. The Lions led Mississippi State through two rounds of the three round event.
Title Town: North Alabama won both the team and individual titles at the Savannah Intercollegiate.
Sebastian Bengtsson and
John Logan became the first North Alabama individuals to win a tournament since
Francois Jacobs won the Gulf Coast Collegiate last spring. The team victory serves as the second under Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Phillips in his first year with the program. Phillips has two team titles in just seven tournaments this season, the first coming in the MartinFed Invitational at Turtle Point.
Postseason in Sight: This year's ASUN Men's Golf Championship takes place at Highland Oaks golf course in Dothan, Ala. on April 21-23. All 12 ASUN teams will participate in the tournament for a chance at an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Spring Cleaning: Following the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational, the Lions have two more tournaments before moving on to the postseason. The Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Invite and Mountaineer Invitational round out the regular season. All four remaining tournaments take place in different states, including California, South Carolina and West Virginia before returning to Alabama for the ASUN Men's Golf Championship.
