BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (April 16, 2024) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team closed out the regular season on Tuesday with a sixth place finish in the Mountaineer Invitational — hosted by West Virginia in Bridgeport, W.Va. 
 
UNA now looks ahead to the ASUN Men's Golf Championship hosted in Dothan, Ala. on April 21-23.  Entering the day with a 595 total, UNA turned in a third round score of 290 to bring the three-round total to 885. Host West Virginia took home both team and individual honors, placing 28 strokes ahead of second place Marshall with an 18-under-par 846 showing. 
 
Western Kentucky, James Madison and Oral Roberts separate second place Marshall and North Alabama, while the Lions finished the event ahead of Loyola Maryland, Appalachian State, William & Mary, Tennessee Tech, St. John's, Xavier, Robert Morris, Central Michigan, Army and UT Martin.
  
After leading UNA with a one-under 71 in round two, freshman Andrew Ferworn turned in a card of four-over-par 220 after a two-over day Tuesday to tie for 21st. Sophomore Eric Luo took the largest leap in the final round, overcoming a 78 in round two to shoot one-under 71 and finish tied for 32nd. Junior teammate Chase Kaiser was also 32nd after an even-par day, as both finished seven-over-par 223.
 
Rounding out the lineup for UNA was freshman John Logan in a tie for 42nd at 226, while sophomore Sebastian Bengtsson carded a 228 to tie for 45th.
 
As a team, North Alabama had the second-best showing on par-threes behind West Virginia, while ranking third behind WVU and Marshall with 48 birdies to lead all out-of-state schools.
 
The Lions travel to Dothan, Ala. to participate in the ASUN Men's Golf Championship on April 21-23 for a chance to earn an automatic bid for an NCAA Regional event.  Mountaineer Invitational
