PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (October 28, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team finished in third at the Florida Atlantic Invitational tournament in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. on Tuesday, led by an individual first place finish from junior Andrew Ferworn.
The tournament, originally scheduled for three rounds, was shortened to two rounds on Tuesday morning. Per Florida Atlantic University's athletic department, wet course conditions forced the tournament to be shortened to 36 holes.
Ferworn walks away with his first individual win of the 2025 season as he completed the tournament with an eight-under-par 136 (69-67) scorecard. He led the field in birdies with 12 — six in both rounds — and bested all golfers in par-4s with his 3.70 average (-6).
The junior shot under on both the front and back nine for the two rounds with a low of 33 on the front nine of the second round; he had only one bogey in the second round.
Ferworn reset the Division I era Individual two round tournament record that he set at the Cullan Brown Collegiate with his 137. His finish helped lead him past golfers from four different top-100 teams, including No. 10 Florida. Ferworn beat out the No. 96 player in the nation, USF's Wilhelm Ryding, by two strokes.
The Lions finished in third across a strong 16-team field in Florida, where they finished second after 54 holes in the same tournament a season ago. UNA finished with 32 birdies for the two rounds, good for third amongst the field.
Tarleton State had an 18-under tournament to boast the team crown while No. 76 USF earned second place with their 10-under. North Alabama finalized the teams that shot under par for the tournament with their two-under, 574 total score.
Abilene Christian finished even par for fourth, while ASUN foes Stetson and Jacksonville tied for fifth at two-over. Host school FAU took seventh just one stroke behind the Hatters and Dolphins.
Samford finished eighth at four-over, followed by Jacksonville State at six-over. Troy and Seton Hall tied for 10th, while a three-way tie ensued for 12th between Campbell, Creighton and UCF. West Georgia and Navy rounded out the field, respectively.
Senior Xing Luo was the next-highest Lion behind Ferworn in a tie for sixth with a five-under two rounds with cards of 68-71. His eight birdies led him to his highest finish of the 2025 season. His 139 is the third-best Division I era individual two round tournament total.
Senior Sebastian Bengtsson finished in 37th with a two-over, as he added four birdies and shot under on each round's front nine. Freshman Jedd Brady (+9) and redshirt freshman Walter Waineby (+22) rounded out the scoring for the Lions.
Senior Blake Henriques finished in 49th for a four-over tournament. He added five birdies in round two while finishing with a 70 score for a two-under during the final 18 holes.
"First off, congratulations to Andrew…he's had a great semester so it's great to see him get a win," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Phillips. "We just didn't play our best this week and the big numbers hurt us. We need to learn from this quickly because this is what has held us back this season; we are so close and then something just brings it back. This team has the talent, and we have the schedule next semester to move us back up. I hate we didn't play the last round because I think we would have made a run in those final 18 holes."
North Alabama closed out their 2025 fall season after today and compete again during their championship season in the spring, beginning with the Sea Best Invitational on Monday, Feb. 2.
