Ferworn blazes through final round of NCAA Regional at five-under

Junior flies up 20 spots on leaderboard on final day with a 66

ATHENS, Ga. (May 20, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men's golf junior Andrew Ferworn finishes tied for 49th on the final day at the NCAA Regionals in Athens, Ga. on Wednesday. He finished the final round with a 66 (-5) on his card.

This was the final day of the three-day tournament, playing 18 holes. Ferworn is the second consecutive Lion to make the Division I NCAA Regionals in program history.

Ferworn competed with No. 13 seed Howard's Mathis Perroni and Kennesaw State's individual Shaun Cook. Perroni finished in 74th for the tournament at 22-over while Cook finished tied for 60th at six-over. Cook and Ferworn competed all three days for the NCAA Regional.

Six birdies found the hole for the junior — with three consecutive birdies on holes five, six and seven. Ferworn birdied holes five and seven in round two and par'd those same holes in round one.

The Houston, Texas native closed out his final nine holes of the season with six pars and three birdies. He had a 33 score on both the front and back nine today.

After his surge up 20 spots, Ferworn added a fourth-ranked golfer to his list that he finished higher than. He added Illinois' Freddie Turnell, the 120th ranked golfer, to the list alongside the No. 96 golfer in the nation in Auburn's Billy Davis, the No. 125 golfer in Vanderbilt's Michael Riebe and No. 145 golfer William King from Kansas. Ferworn finished as the 207th ranked golfer at the end of the regular season according to Scoreboard Clippd.

Thirty-five of the 77-man field finished under-par after the three rounds in Athens. Louisiana's Malan Potgieter qualified for the national championship as the highest individual with a 14-under to tie for first place.

"Andrew had one of the best rounds on the course today and really just took off in the last 14 holes," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Phillips. "I'm proud of his performance to come back like that and for a great year."

Ferworn completes his junior year with the Lions as the team heads to the National Golf Invitational in Maricopa, Az. beginning on Friday, May 22-24.
