MOBILE, Ala. (December 13, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team will hit the road for a bout against South Alabama on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. in Mobile, Ala.
North Alabama continues a three-game road swing against in-state teams with the Lions taking on the Jaguars down south. The three-game stretch started with a 68-66 overtime win at Samford in Birmingham.
The Lions will take on South Alabama in the Mitchell Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be provided through StatBroadcast.
Tickets are available for purchase through South Alabama's ticket office. The game will serve as a basketball doubleheader with South Alabama's men's basketball team playing North Texas following UNA's game at 4:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama had a thrilling, down-to-the-wire overtime victory Sunday, Dec. 7 with a 68-66 triumph at Samford in Birmingham, Ala. The Lions earned its second all-time victory over the Bulldogs thanks to two late free throws from graduate Bukky Akinsola with one second left. UNA defended the final Samford possession en route to its fifth win of the season and the first on the road.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE: Sophomores Venla Ulander and Sofia Ceppellotti starred for the Lions in career outings against Samford. Both Lions registered their first career double-double, setting new highs in points and rebounds. Ulander led the game with 21 points on 80 percent shooting to go with 10 rebounds. Ceppellotti chipped in 19 points with a game-high 13 rebounds in the road win.
SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama heads to Mobile at 5-3 overall on the season – sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings. By the numbers, UNA is shooting at a 38.7 percent clip from the field while holding opponents to 34.2 percent shooting. The team holds additional advantages in three-point shooting percentage (.263 to .241), rebounds (343-318) and blocks (30-21). North Alabama shares the ball on offense well, leading opponents 109-65 in assists on the season. UNA is pacing teams in offensive rebounding with a 110-89 advantage while leading 233-229 in defensive rebounds. The Lions have had strong starts to open games, outscoring teams 124-111 in the first quarter. The second and third quarter are also led by UNA, holding a 123-106 advantage in the second and 135-112 advantage in the third.
SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMA: The Jaguars sport a 6-3 record on the season, falling to the Florida Gators in their last outing, 75-61. South Alabama has had early wins this season against Akron, UAB, North Florida, Florida Atlantic, Kennesaw State and Florida A&M. The Jaguars went 6-24 during the 2024-25 season with a 2-16 record in the Sun Belt Conference. South Alabama has three double-digit scorers in Amyah Sutton (13.3 points per game), Cordasia Harris (12.4) and Daniela Gonzalez (10.4). The Jaguars are led by third-year head coach Yolisha Jackson.
SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama and South Alabama meet for the eighth time in the all-time series on Sunday. The Jaguars hold a narrow 4-3 lead, but the Lions claimed the previous two meetings during the 1984-85 and 2045-25 seasons. UNA defeated South Alabama, 71-62, in the last meeting on Nov. 15, 2024 in Florence, Ala.
AMONG THE RANKS: North Alabama ranks in the top three in ASUN statistics in eight categories as of Dec. 12. The Lions lead in the conference in total rebounds (42.9 per game). They are second in opponent three-point percentage (24.1 percent), opponent field-goal percentage (34.2 percent), scoring defense (60.1 per game) and offensive rebounds (13.8). UNA is third in blocked shots (3.75 per game), defensive rebounds (29.1 per game) and bench points (28 per game).
TOP TIER: In addition to ASUN ranks, the Lions are in the top 100 nationally in six categories. North Alabama ranks nationally per game in opponent three-point percentage (15th), opponent field-goal percentage (25th), total rebounds (35th), defensive rebounds (37th), bench points (48th) and offensive rebounds (85th).
SOFIA SHINES: Ceppellotti leads the team in scoring at 12 points per game. She's leads the team in rebounding average (6.6 per game) while second in field-goal percentage (52.4 percent), three-point percentage (42.9 percent) and made three pointers (nine).
RIGHT UP HER ALLEY: Senior Alexsandra Alvarado is second on the team in scoring with 10.4 points per game on 40.8 percent shooting. She is UNA's current three-pointers made leader with 14 at a 32.6 percent clip. She is tied for seventh in the ASUN in three-pointers made per game (1.8 per game) and 20th in the ASUN in scoring average. Defensively, Alvarado is 11th in steals per game (1.6).
GABBY GETS IT!: Freshman Gabby Jackson is the team leader in total rebounds with 47 for a 5.9 average. She has had at least four rebounds in all but one game with a season-high 13 at Tennessee State on Nov. 19. The Kansas City, Mo. native is tied for 13th in the ASUN in rebounds per game.
BUKKY BUCKETS: Akinsola has shown veteran leadership in multiple parts of the game. Averaging 7.1 points per game, Akinsola has made her mark in the playmaking and defense category. She has the team-high in total assists (24) while second in steals (11). Akinsola is tied for 11th in assists per game (three per game) and 14th in the ASUN in steals per game (1.4).
NOTHING EASY: North Alabama has three players ranked in the top 25 in blocked shots. Junior Katie Criswell leads the team with seven blocks, ranking her tied for 11th in the ASUN with 0.9 per game. Senior India Howard is second on the team with six blocks and tied for 18th in conference at 0.8 per game. Senior Jazzy Klinge is tied for third on the team with four blocks which ranks tied for 21st in the conference at 0.5 per game.
