UNA Baseball hosts Billikens in Pearl, Mississippi

North Alabama travels to Pearl, Mississippi for a weekend series after inclement weather

PEARL, Miss. (February 21, 2025) – The University of North Alabama baseball team heads to Pearl, Miss. to play host to the St. Louis Billikens in Trustmark Park for games five through seven of the year. Saturday will now see a double header starting at 1:00 p.m. and the second game will follow 40 minutes after. The Sunday matchup with begin as scheduled at 12:00 p.m. to close the series.

Due to inclement weather in St. Louis, the series moved to a neutral site with UNA serving as site host.

THE RUNDOWN: North Alabama dropped an SEC game against No. 25 Auburn on Wednesday, evening out its season record at 2-2. The Lions played well, even leading the Tigers for six innings 2-1. However, Auburn found their rhythm in the bottom of the eighth to push their lead to 6-2 to secure the win.

SERIES HISTORY: The Lions and Billikens meet for the first time in program history on Feb. 22.
 
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS: The Billikens step into this series 1-3 on the season on a three-game losing streak. All four games came against Saint Mary's to open the season. They opened with a Friday double-header where they won the initial game, 9-4. The next three games they scored a combined six runs and allowed 41 with two seven inning finishes. Senior outfielder Hayden Moore leads St. Louis on offense with a .500 batting average and .800 slugging percentage. He has scored four runs this season with five hits and an RBI. He has been waled six times, notched a double and triple while also stealing three bases. 

PITCHING PINGETON, ASUN PITCHER OF THE WEEK: The Atlantic Sun Conference announced senior right-handed pitcher Anthony Pingeton as the ASUN Pitcher of the Week for the first week of the season. Pingeton got the nod to start game three of the Army series this past weekend. In 6.0 innings pitched, he threw five strikeouts, faced no more than three batters through the first five innings, did not allow a run, and finished with an .053 opponent batting average. 

TRUSTMARK PARK: Trustmark Park is located in Pearl, Miss., home to the Mississippi Mud Monsters of the Frontier League. The Mud Monsters were born in September 2024, after the Mississippi Braves relocated to Columbus, Ga. leaving behind an 8,480 seat stadium. Pearl, Miss. will have a professional baseball team for the 21st year in a row, after the initial 20 year run from the Braves. 

ROAD WARRIORS: North Alabama is in the process of building Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium, which is currently scheduled to be ready in April. The Lions will play on the road and at neutral site venues until then. For more information, click here.

UP NEXT: North Alabama heads to Knoxville, Tenn. to square off against their next SEC opponent in the Tennessee Volunteers on Feb. 25 at 3:30 p.m. at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
