NOTES
THE RUNDOWN: North Alabama recently battled with the Belmont Bruins in Nashville, Tenn. on March 4 in E.S. Rose Park.
Bryant Loving opened the Lions up with a homerun to left field. The Bruins responded with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Lions answered with two walks that crossed home plate to even the game. A single from
RJ Sherwood pushed
Matthew Delgado to score the go-ahead run. However, the Bruins scored the tying run in the bottom of the ninth which led to them winning it in extra innings in the 10th, 5-4.
Reese Young recorded four strikeouts on the day and
Dylan Morrill had a team-high of six.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the first all-time meeting between the two programs for LSU and North Alabama.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: The Tigers are one of the best teams in all of college baseball this season, hence the No. 2 ranking. LSU is 13-1 this season and on a eoght-game win streak with their only loss coming at home to Omaha in upset fashion 5-4. They have reached double-digit runs in nine games of the 13 played. They have three batters with a .400 average; all three have 18 or more hits on the season and at least 16 runs each. They have run ruled two teams this season and went into extra innings with Kansas Stat, winning 8-5 in the 10
th. LSU is coming off of a two-game home stand against North Dakota State on Monday and Tuesday.
LEAD OFF LANE: Senior second baseman
Jonathan Lane has been a leadoff man for the Lions a good majority of the season. As he has started and played in every game this season, another statistic he holds is reaching the base in every single game. He is the only Lion to have mastered the feat and is the only one with a double-digit streak. He also holds the longest hitting streak on the team with nine consecutive games before that was disrupted in the final game of the UAB series.
PITCH COUNT: Head coach Jad Prachniak has kept his weekend rotations primarily the same. Typically, the starters run as
Brycen Parrish,
Tripp Patterson and
Anthony Pingeton for the Friday through Sunday games respectively. However, freshman left-handed pitcher
Tripp Patterson and senior right-handed pitcher
Dylan Morrill are 2-0 when pitching in the same game this season. Patterson has 1.37 ERA on the season while Morrill boasts a 1.38 ERA, the top-two on the team-- minimum of one inning per game. Between the two, 32.2 innings have been pitched while Morrill leads the team in strikeouts with 14 while Patterson is in second with 11. Finally, in the minimum of innings pitched both have the lowest batting average for opposing batters when they are on the mound.
LINEUP LIMBO: The Lions have played 11 games in the young season. 10 of those games have seen at least one new player inserted into the lineup outside of the mound. Head coach Jad Prachniak has moved a ton of pieces around, only leaving three players as full-time starters which are second baseman
Jonathan Lane, shortstop
Leighton Jenkins and first baseman
Petey Craska. Prachniak has placed different players in each of the outfield spots, catcher, third base and even designated hitter. For those positions, there have been eight different players to work through them in the 10 games.
ROAD WARRIORS: North Alabama is in the process of building Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium, which is currently scheduled to be ready in April. The Lions will play on the road and at neutral site venues until then. For more information,

UP NEXT: After the LSU series, the Lions stay in state to play Samford in Birmingham, Ala. on March 11 at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Samford is one of seven teams that the Lions played a season ago.
