COLUMBIA, Mo. (April 8, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team finished their final regular season tournament on Tuesday, April 8 in 11th at the Tiger Intercollegiate. They rose two spots on the final 23 holes played as they picked up from the 13th hole yesterday.
Junior
Sebastian Bengtsson and junior
Xing Luo tied for 26th on the day to be the two highest ranked Lions. Luo added two birdies and rose eight spots in the final round. Bengtsson finished seven-over for the tournament and was as high as 20th on the final 18.
Bengtsson secured 10 of the North Alabama 32 birdies during the tournament, best for third overall. UNA tied with three other programs for seventh, including ASUN opponent Central Arkansas.
Missouri is the only team to not conclude with an over-par score as they finished even at the home tournament. Missouri's own Mattias Varjun finished four-under to win the individual crown while second place was Cincinnati's Ryan Ford as he broke even. The only two golfers not to shoot over for the two days.
St. Mary's finished in second, climbing up from fourth with an eight-over tournament. Nebraska drops to third with a 14-over tournament but is the only other team aside from the home squad to shoot under in round three.
Kansas State solidifies fourth with back-to-back four-over rounds. Cincinnati and Central Arkansas tied in fifth with an 862 total—both were tied in sixth at the conclusion of day one.
No. 26 UNLV drops from third to seventh with an 18-over round two and three-over round three. The fourth through seventh teams were all within a stroke of each other; after them it tapers off some as South Dakota notches eighth with a 33-over tournament.
Drake and Iowa State tied for ninth, edging out the Lions by one stroke for a 34-over two-day trip. The Lions finished 35-over to claim 11th alongside Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Oral Roberts, Wyoming, Stetson, South Dakota State, Lindenwood and Central Michigan round out the tournament respectively.
Luo shot even on the final round to raise eight spots. He added three birdies in round three which was more than the previous two combined. Bengtsson finished round two with a one-under and finalized the day with a two-over round.
Junior
Blake Henriques rose six spots in the final round to 51st with an 11-over two days. He added four total birdies. Sophomore
Andrew Ferworn jumped five spots to 55th at 12-over. He grabbed two birdies with both being two-shots on a par three; he even shot one-under in the front nine of round three.
Senior
Chase Kaiser finished the tournament with a 17-over but added three birdies for the final round and totaling eight overall. The eight birdies were second best behind Bengtsson.
"We have to get ready for conference," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach, Austin Phillips. "We had some big conversations today and we will be ready. We played better today but still have a lot to improve on before we play again in a couple of weeks."
The Tiger Intercollegiate closes the book on the 2025 regular season for the Lions. North Alabama gets one rest week and then heads to Valdosta, Ga. for the 2025 ASUN Men's Golf Championship April 20-22.
