NOTES
ABOUT LAST GAME: UNA soccer suffered its first home loss of the season to Eastern Kentucky 3-2 on Sunday afternoon for the grand opening of Bank Independent Stadium. The Lions fell behind by two Colonel goals early before Monica Yoder's second goal of the season brought life to the Lions in the 28th minute off a free kick from Maddie Reynolds. The Colonels snuck in a goal before halftime, making it 3-1 going into the break. The Lions sparked momentum in the second half, out-shooting the Colonels 13-2 and scoring once off the foot of Adelyn Speight in a corner scramble in the 71st minute. Despite the surge, the Lions could not level the game and now sit at 2-1-0 in the conference.

SERIES HISTORY: This is the third all-time meeting between the Lions and Wildcats since 2018. UNA has dropped both games to Abilene Christian — 5-2 in 2019 and 2-0 in 2018. In the 2019 meeting, the Wildcats took a commanding lead in the first half, scoring three goals in the first 15 minutes of action and entering the half leading 4-1. Shelby Wall scored both goals for the Lions in the 38th and 86th minutes of the match.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: The Abilene Christian Wildcats travel to Florence with a record of 4-2-5 overall and 1-0-2 in the conference. The Wildcats recently defeated in-state UAC opponent Tarleton State 3-2 and tied Little Rock and Central Arkansas 1-1 apiece. Abilene Christian has won five UAC Weekly Awards over four consecutive weeks between Aug. 31 and Sept. 21. Two of the awards have come by way of freshman defender Audrey Coppinger, who earned back-to-back defender of the week awards in September. Freshman forward Addison Briscoe leads the Wildcats with five goals, three assists and 13 points on the season.

CROSSING OVER: The meeting between UNA and Abilene Christian marks the first UAC division crossover game for both teams this season. The newly formed eight-team conference is split into two different four-team divisions. UNA competes in the Blue Division with Eastern Kentucky, Austin Peay and West Georgia, while Abilene Christian joins Tarleton State, Central Arkansas and Little Rock in the Red Division. Teams play each opponent within their division twice – once at home and once away – and each team from the opposite division once. For the UAC Tournament, the top team in each division earns a bye to the semifinals. Central Arkansas will host the conference tournament, beginning with first-round matches on Sunday, Nov. 8. The semifinals will be played Wednesday, Nov. 11 followed by the championship match Saturday, Nov. 14.

NEXT GAME: After the Thursday night battle with the Wildcats, the Lions host another Lone Star State foe in the Tarleton State Texans at Bank Independent Stadium this coming Sunday at 1 p.m.
