NOTES
THE RUNDOWN: North Alabama dropped its midweek matchup against in-state rival Jacksonville State on Tuesday evening at Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium, 8-3. North Alabama nearly resurged in the ninth inning after a
Wes Walker home run in the first at-bat that coupled with loaded bases shortly after.
Petey Craska walked to force another run across, but the scoring trend ended with the bases juiced and the tying run on deck. Six hits were recorded to score the three runs with
Jackson Westmoreland snagging the 2-for-4 afternoon. Alongside Walker, left fielder
Nash Rippen had his own solo shot in the bottom of the second. Outside of the trio,
Justin Santoyo and
Will Millard earned hits for the contest. Pinch runner
Jackson Cheek helped score one of the three runs.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 40th through 42nd all-time meetings between the two programs. After the Atlantic Sun Conference moved to two divisions a season ago, these two now meet twice a season; Lipscomb took both a season ago, however UNA took the final game between the pair, 4-1. North Alabama has won only two series during the Division I era against Lipscomb, both coming in 2021 with one being a sweep. The Lions are 19-20 overall with eight of those wins coming during the Division I era; 2021 saw five wins over the Bisons. The Lipscomb matchup holds the record for the second=longest game in North Alabama school history at 15 innings with over five hours of play in 2021 — UNA won 6-5.
SCOUTING THE BISONS: Lipscomb is 6-9 through non-conference play so far this season with a series win over Dayton. The Bisons split weekend series with Villanova (final game canceled) and Toledo before being swept by No. 4 Mississippi State this past weekend. This is their first home game since March 2 when they hosted Toledo on Monday in a 13-5 victory; all six wins have come at home this season. The Bisons are on a four-game losing streak after the weekend sweep and their midweek loss to Memphis, 5-2. Five batters boast over a .300 average from the box, while Aaron Stelogeannis leads the team with a .385. Brady Miller leads the team with 15 walks, best for first in the ASUN.
CONFERENCE SLATE: Last season was the best season to date for the Lions in all regards throughout Division I, most notably their conference play. In 2025, North Alabama achieved its best conference win total with 16 which gave them the first season with over a .500-win percentage through conference play. In total, the Lions won seven series last season with six coming through ASUN play -- another first for conference series wins. UNA scored their first conference weekend sweep since 2023 over Central Arkansas, last accomplished against Kennesaw State. North Alabama had season sweeps over Central Arkansas and Eastern Kentucky and handed Austin Peay their only conference series loss.
A LOOK BACK: In 2025, the Lions made their first ASUN Postseason tournament during their Division I tenure. The team opened with No. 2 Jacksonville from the Graphite Division; the Dolphins opened with a 5-1 win. After the opening loss, the Lions received No. 3 North Florida and outdueled them 14-11 to secure the first postseason win during Division I. The Lions fought one more time with No. 2 Jacksonville, but fell as the Dolphins walked it off in the ninth 3-2.
THE PARRISH GAME: The Lions only took home two wins over the Bisons all of last season, one in the road series and one in the home series. In the opening game of the away series with Lipscomb, right-handed pitcher and graduate captain
Brycen Parrish threw a complete game shutout to take the win, 1-0. Parrish went the full nine innings with five strikeouts as he threw 115 total pitches, 80 being strikes for a 69.6 percent K/BB clip. The captain allowed only two hits which tied his lowest hit total of the season which came in game one against Army. Parrish's shutout was the first nine inning shutout of the Division I era. The last player to do so was Tyler Joyner against Christian Brothers on April 15, 2018.
UP NEXT: After the weekend series with Lipscomb, North Alabama gets a midweek home game against Tennessee Tech on Tuesday, March 17 at 4 p.m. in Florence, Ala. at Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium.
