NAPA, Calif. (March 24, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team took home a third-place designation after the conclusion of the Bridgestone Intercollegiate tournament held in Napa, Calif. on Tuesday.
The Lions placed two golfers, Jedd Brady and Xing Luo, in the top-five of the tournament; each finished seven-under through the 54-holes. A scorecard of 209 places the pair in 22nd and 23rd for the Best Division I three-round individual tournament total in North Alabama history.
After the best second round of the field yesterday at 16-under, UNA returned with a three-under final round to conclude the week at 20-under. Four teams finished all three rounds under-par, No. 27 BYU, Santa Clara, San Francisco and North Alabama.
The Lions finished with a total score of 844 which tied for the ninth-best Division I three-round team total. After yesterday's 272 score and today's 285, the 557 total ties for the third-best Division I two-round team total.
The Lions were 27-under when it came to par-5s as a group, best for third across the field. The five eagles sunk yesterday between the five UNA golfers stood as the top rank for the category through the end of the day. No. 27 BYU finished as the second-best team in the category with three total.
Luo finished with two eagles to tie him for the most among all players, as he sunk one in each round; Ferworn, Brady and Luke Davis each had one, as well.
UNA finished in fifth for birdies as the team totaled 56, adding 19 more in the final 18 holes played.
Brady and Luo tied as the top performers in par-5s with an average of 4.25 at a nine-under total. Fourteen birdies found the cup from Brady, best for ninth across the tournament.
No. 27 BYU exceeded their first round total with a 26-under third round to complete the Bridgestone Intercollegiate with a total of 54-under par — 25 strokes better than second-place Santa Clara who sat at 29-under.
North Alabama finished in a three-way tie for third after its three-under round. This allowed the Japanese-based program Tohoku Fukushi University and San Francisco to climb back into the tie at 20-under between the two days.
Caly Poly (-13), Eastern Michigan (-6), Connecticut (-5) and UC Davis (-4) were the other teams to finish under-par for the two-day tournament.
Brady finished in the top-five for the first time in his collegiate career; this is Luo's first top-five finish of the season and now his fourth top-seven finish this year.
Junior Andrew Ferworn was the next-highest scoring Lion in 14th at five-under with an even final round. Senior Sebastian Bengtsson finished with four birdies with a 35-under in the final nine holes as he too finished even par today.
Redshirt freshman Luke Davis holed four birdies today while individual Arthur Estas added two birdies and an eagle on Tuesday.
"We did not get our stuff going today," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Phillips. "As postseason inches closer, we need to learn from this so we can continue growing and getting better."
