NOTES
THE RUNDOWN: The University of North Alabama baseball team swept Eastern Kentucky with its 7-5 win on Sunday at Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium. The Lions secured their third consecutive series over the Colonels dating back to last season; this is the second series sweep this season with Saint Louis being the other. Since the transition to Division I, UNA now holds six ASUN series sweeps. Two of those sweeps have come in the last three conference series — EKU and Central Arkansas to end the 2025 regular season. North Alabama had 12 hits to create seven runs; the hit total slides into the second-best role behind the 14 against Saint Louis on Feb. 21. The Lions batted .375, another second-best on the season behind the aforementioned game.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 55th through 57th all-time meetings between the two programs since 1984. Last season, the Lions took the second series wins over the Knights; this series opened the Mike D. Lane Field portion of Bank Independent Stadium. During the Division I tenure, the Lions have been a 12-12 team against Bellarmine with a 6-3 home record. UNA dropped the first game at home last season against Bellarmine but returned with two wins to take the series on Saturday and Sunday.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS: Bellarmine hosts North Alabama with an 8-15 record with two conference wins in that span. The Knights hosted Austin Peay to open the conference slate before getting Central Arkansas in their most recent weekend. Bellarmine took a win off each conference opponent in the Saturday games of the series with 9-8 and 5-2 wins, respectively. The most recent win came against Northern Kentucky on Tuesday at Knights Field, 7-6. Four of their eight wins came at home this season with the only two losses in Louisville coming from Austin Peay.
MILLY ROCKED: Over the previous weekend, junior catcher Will Millard blasted two home runs against Eastern Kentucky. The first came in the ninth inning of game one on Friday with two outs, down 5-3. His blast scored Petey Craska and himself to tie the game. Craska eventually walked the game off in the bottom of the 10th to secure the opening victory. Millard batted .588 over the previous week and went an astounding 10-for-17 with six runs scored, five RBIs, three doubles and two home runs. He was given a share of ASUN Player of the Week with his heroics.
THE MIKE OPENER: On April 17, 2025, Bellarmine traveled down to Florence, Ala. to become the first opponent to play in the newly constructed Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium. However, the field portion of the stadium was the only part to be operational as the pressbox, grandstands, party deck, berm and other amenities were still in flux. Bellarmine took game one of the series, but North Alabama returned with two straight wins to take the series opener at the Mike.
UP NEXT: After the weekend series with Bellarmine, North Alabama travels to Birmingham with a midweek appointment with UAB at Young Memorial Field on Tuesday, March 31 at 1 p.m.
