NOTES
THE RUNDOWN: The UNA baseball team dropped the Bellarmine series on Sunday, 12-9 at Knights Field in Louisville, Ky. North Alabama had the most hits in a game this season with 16, surpassing the former highest that was set against Saint Louis on Feb. 21 with 14. Bellarmine earned its first series win behind 15 hits and 12 runs on Sunday. All 12 runs came in the final four innings of the game.
Reese Young had his longest outing of the season with 5.2 innings pitched where he allowed only two hits through five innings of work.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 12th all-time meetings between the two programs. The Lions are 3-8 all-time against the Blazers with their most recent win coming in 2024, 9-8 in Florence. This series dates all the way back to 1979 with the most recent meeting being in Florence in Feb. of this season. UAB came to UNA on Tuesday, Feb. 21 where the Blazers walked away with the 15-3 victory.
SCOUTING THE BLAZERS: When these two teams first met, the Blazers were coming off a series loss to Florida to open the season. Since then, UAB has won 17 of the last 25 games played since the first matchup. This is UAB's fifth straight game at Young Memorial Field with the prior four games falling in the win column. The Blazer's gave Jacksonville State one of their five losses this season before sweeping Tulane over the weekend.
IN-STATE MATTERS: This now the fourth game against an in-state opponent for the Lions this season. So far, UNA has gotten the opportunity to compete against Samford, UAB and Jacksonville State. These three opponents combined for 54 wins through the possible 83 games played in 2026. North Alabama has dropped all three games with Samford being the closest, 6-5. After this game with UAB, the Lions will get Samford at the Mike on May 5 for the fifth and final game against an in-state opponent.
UP NEXT: After the quick trip to Birmingham, the Lions host Central Arkansas for Easter weekend. First pitch is on Thursday at 7 p.m. for Military and First Responders Day at Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium.
