ARLINGTON, Texas (August 31, 2026) – The University of North Alabama's soccer senior captain,
Charlotte Sobotka, earned United Athletic Conference Player of the Week announced by the league on Monday.
Sobotka, a native of Troy, Mich., scored the game-winner for the Lions against Southeast Missouri on Sunday afternoon, 2-1. Her 63rd minute goal is her first of the season and second of her career at North Alabama; this marks the sixth goal and first award of her collegiate career.
The Lions tamed the Redhawks in a hot Sunday afternoon battle, defending their undefeated August slate. This is the first time since the 2022 season the Lions have finished the month of August unbeaten. That season, UNA beat Jackson State (2-0), Belmont (2-0) and tied South Alabama (1-1) and Troy (0-0) for a 2-0-2 record. The Lions went 5-0 in 2018 for the best record of the Division I era through the month of August.
Along with an undefeated August, the Lions boast three weekly awards in the newly-formed UAC, including Sobotka's honors this week and two awards last week. Forward
Anna Fugarino earned UAC Player of the Week, and defender
Avery Smith won UAC Defender of the Week following two North Alabama wins on home turf last week.
Prior to the Lions membership in the UAC, North Alabama soccer spent eight seasons in the ASUN, accumulating 15 conference weekly awards over nine different players.
Alice Bussey and Payton Yates led all players with three weekly awards each.
"Charlotte is extremely deserving, and we're excited that she won this weekly award," said head coach
Chris Walker. "Her performance and game-winner against SEMO this week lifted us to the win. This award rewards her hard work, leadership and dedication to our team."
North Alabama soccer travels to California this week for a two-game slate against California Baptist on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 9 p.m. and UC San Diego on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m.
