PADUCAH, Ky. (September 14, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team saw its first action of the 2026-27 season Monday at the Velvet Classic in Paducah, Ky. After two rounds, the Lions sit fifth place out of 14 teams highlighted by a strong second round.

UNA started in the middle of the pack after going 21-over in the first round but found its footing in the next 18 holes to shave off nine strokes and move up three spots into the top five. The Lions have a five-stroke lead over UAB and a six-stroke lead over Belmont to secure a spot in the top five heading into Tuesday's final round.

The Lions currently sit at 33-over-par with a stroke score of 609.

Two upperclassmen led the way for the Lions in the first day of action — fifth-year senior Kerigan Klauber and junior Olivia Whittle. Both started in a tie for 15th at six-over in the first two rounds. Both were +4 and +2 in the first two rounds with a 76 and 74, respectively.

A pair of freshmen made their collegiate debuts on Monday, as Muscle Shoals native Annalee Regan is tied for 33rd at +10 after carding a 74 (+2) in the second round. Spain native Celia Martinez Garcia is just one stroke behind her at +11 with a 77 and 78 in her debut.

Senior Ava Schwartz rounded things out in the middle of the pack with a +19 score, bouncing back with a 78 in her second round.

"We struggled to find any sort of footing in round one, and our mistakes were doubles or worse — tough golf course, first taste of competition and we came out timid," said UNA head coach Neil Self. "Not the identity we want, but we had a great turnaround in round two. We went on a tear in the middle portion, which was great to see and showed we have some horsepower. I felt Olivia and Kerigan played well all day. Nice second round from Annalee in her first college tourney."
