MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (September 6, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team started in 16th place after the first round of the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate tournament held in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Sunday.
After an inch of rain in the area the night before, the Lions score a 295 between the top four finishers of sophomores Jedd Brady and Luke Davis alongside freshmen Jack Morris and Anton Hedliden.
Brady is the only season-long returner from last year in the starting lineup. Morris, Hedliden and Lucas Latimer all made their North Alabama debuts while Davis joined the starting rotation for the third time in his collegiate career.
UNA finished six-over in the first round at The Grande Dunes Resort Club. The Lions played only 18 holes today alongside golfers from Campbell and Elon University — Elon finished at 12-under for first amongst the 16 teams.
Appalachian State, UNCW and North Alabama were the three teams to shoot over par in the first round. UNA had four golfers that made three or more birdies.
Brady swung for an even day with three birdies and three bogeys to steady the group.
Hedliden (+2) alongside Davis (+4) had four birdies each to lead the Lions. Hedliden, the freshman from Sweden, had two birdies on each side of the nine played today.
Freshman Mississippi native, Morris, had two birdies on his front nine and concluded with seven straight pars before a birdie and bogey to cancel each other out to close his debut.
The Lions had four total even nine holes, two from Brady, one from Morris and one from Hedliden.
Davis and Latimer rounded out the team and had a combined five birdies between the two teammates.
Elon led the field at 12-under with two close contestants of UTSA (-11) and Campbell (-10) in second and third respectively. Lipscomb claimed fourth at nine-under while Jacksonville State, Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville shared fifth place at five-under.
Illinois State finished in eighth at seven-under while Stetson and Kennesaw State took ninth at six-under. FAU, Winthrop, East Carolina, App State and UNCW all prelude the Lions after the first day.
"We had little mistakes today that made it difficult to play a good team round of golf," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach Matt Terry. "The conditions were right for scoring, but we did not execute when we needed to most. The attitude and effort was there from the guys and I am looking forward to seeing the group get better tomorrow."
