George Weeks served as an assistant football coach and head baseball coach for the Lions from 1949 through the 1950's and 1960's. For the majority of that time he and coach Hal Self were the entire Lion football coaching staff. He served as assistant football coach from 1949-69 and as head baseball coach from 1949-71.
 

During his time on the football staff, the Lions went 109-81-8 and had a remarkable 31-0-2 record against state schools from 1952-63. He had 16 winning seasons in his more than 20 years as baseball coach from 1949-71. His 1955 baseball squad went 14-2. He played end on the University of Alabama's first Cotton Bowl team in 1942 that defeated Texas A&M 29-21.

He later signed with the Brooklyn Football Dodgers and played professional football for several years. He was an Army captain in World War II and served as a special services officer. He is deceased.
