Grady Liles served as Chairman of the Shoals National Championship Committee, which brought the NCAA Division II Football Championship Game to the Shoals in 1986. He served in that role for a quarter century and also came up with the initial idea for the creation of the Harlon Hill Trophy - the NCAA Division II College Football Player of the Year award, named for the former Lion star.

He served as President of the UNA Sportsman's Club for more than 20 years, taking the lead in building a strong support organization for the UNA athletic department. He was selected 1987 Shoals Citizen of the Year. He was involved in numerous civic activities and organizations in the Shoals area.

The UNA Sportsman's Club room at Braly Stadium is named in his honor.

He passed away in 2013.
