FLORENCE – Jessica Austin had 12 kills as North Alabama made quick work of Christian Brothers at home Friday evening in Gulf South Conference volleyball action. The Lions took just over an hour to pick up the 25-21, 25-14, 25-8 victory and improve to 20-6 on the season and 13-2 in GSC play.
Austin, a sophomore from Farmington Hills, Mich., also hit .632 on the night and added five digs and four blocks. Lexie Bradley also hit .778 for the Lions with seven kills and five service aces. Andrea De Leon had 28 assists. Defensively, Peyton Lang and Ashtyn Kapovich recorded 11 digs while Sarah Ann Tillery also reached double figures with 10 on the night.
After holding on for a close win in the opening set, North Alabama got stronger as the match went on. UNA hit .421 as a team in the second set before closing out the match with a 25-8 showing in the final game.
The victory gives the Lions at least 20 wins for the second straight season. UNA was 20-12 last year, ending the season in a loss in the GSC championship match. The win on Friday kept North Alabama in a second-place with Valdosta State in the league standings.
UNA hosts Union on Saturday. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
