FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama volleyball team improved to 21-6 overall and 14-2 in Gulf South Conference play with a 3-0 sweep over Union Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The 25-19, 25-17, 25-7 victory clinches a spot for the Lions in the upcoming GSC Tournament. UNA is currently tied for second place in the league standings.
On Saturday, Lexie Bradley led the way with a match-high 14 kills. The sophomore from Florence added four service aces and a .400 hitting percentage on the day. Senior setter Andrea De Leon had 24 assists before coming out in the third set with the Lions leading 11-1. Abby Winkler closed out the game at setter for the Lions, recording four assists and a dig.
Defensively, De Leon and Ashtyn Kapovich had seven digs each to lead the Lions. Kapovich also recorded a match-high five aces to take over the top spot in the GSC in the category with a .51 per-set average. Bradley also moved into second place with a .50 per-set average on the year.
Deja Moorer led Union (8-17 overall, 7-9 GSC) with six kills for the match.
UNA will host UAH on Thursday, Nov. 5. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
