PENSACOLA, Fla., – No. 22 West Florida clinched the Gulf South Conference regular season title with a 3-0 home win over North Alabama Friday in GSC volleyball action. The 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 victory completed the season sweep over UNA and dropped the Lions from second to third in the league standings.
North Alabama (23-7 overall, 16-3 GSC) will close its regular season Sunday at Valdosta State, which overtook the Lions for second place. The winner of Sunday's showdown will claim the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GSC Tournament.
On Friday, UNA struggled to find its offensive rhythm, hitting .088 as a team and getting blocked 10 times. The Lions also failed to have a player reach double figures in kills.
Corisha Smith led West Florida (26-5 overall, 18-1 GSC) with 13 kills and a .345 hitting percentage.
UNA was led by Lexie Bradley, who total nine kills. Andrea De Leon had 26 assists while Ashtyn Kapovich turned in a match-high 17 digs on the night.
The Lions will travel to Valdosta on Sunday. Match time against the Blazers is set for 1 p.m. (EST) at the Complex on the VSU campus.
