FLORENCE – Miles shot 50 percent from the floor including a 12-of-37 (56.8 percent) showing in the second half to hold off the University of North Alabama men's basketball team 90-84 Saturday evening at Flowers Hall. With the loss, UNA will enter Gulf South Conference play with a 3-3 overall record. The Lions play at Valdosta State on Thursday, followed by a game at West Florida on Saturday.

The Golden Bears led by as many as 14 over the final 20 minutes of play and maintained at least a four-point advantage down the stretch. Eleven different players scored for Miles (2-2) who grabbed 15 offensive rebounds on the night that led to 15 second-chance points. The visitors also forced 17 UNA turnovers leading to 25 points on the night.

After trailing 77-68 with 4:18 remaining, UNA used a 5-0 run to get within four points. After a pair of free throws by Jeff Hodge made the score 77-73, Miles responded with back-to-back baskets to stretch the lead back to eight. A three-point basket by Austin Timms cut the deficit to 81-76 but the Lions would get no closer.

Timms finished with a game-high 19 points. John Fletcher added 18 points for UNA while Jeff Hodge tossed in 14 points on the night. Dimarrio Jackson and Bilal Richardson rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 11 points each.

Tip-off time for UNA's game at Valdosta State is set for 8 p.m. Eastern following the women's game at the Complex on the VSU campus. The double-header at West Florida is scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. at the UWF Field House in Pensacola.
