LIONS HOLD OFF LEE 81-76

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama men's basketball team grabbed a 10-point lead with 2:08 to play and held off a late rally by Lee to claim an 81-76 Gulf South Conference win Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. The third straight victory gives UNA a 6-5 overall record and puts the Lions in a five-way logjam for third place in the GSC standings with a 3-2 league record.

After a three-point basket by Dakota Holtzclaw gave UNA a 79-69 lead, the Flames were able to cut the lead to three points with possession in the final minute of play. After the 7-0 run, Lee got a turnover and drew a foul with 19 seconds left. The Flames, however, missed two free throws, allowing UNA's Bilal Richardson to grab the rebound and draw a foul. The senior from Stone Mountain, Ga., hit one of two foul shots to make it 80-76.

Another miss by Lee was rebounded by Dimarrio Jackson, who also hit one of two free throws to account for the final score.

Four players reached double figures in scoring for UNA. Richardson finished the game with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jackson added 17 points while John Fletcher tossed in 14 points on the night. Austin Timms rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 10 points.

Lee (3-7 overall, 1-4 GSC) shot over 50 percent from the floor in each half and held a 39-31 rebounding advantage. Keevin Tyus led the Flames with a game-high 28 points.

North Alabama led 43-38 at the half and forced 18 turnovers for the game. The miscues by Lee led to 23 points for the Lions.
