SLOW START DOOMS UNA MEN AGAINST WEST FLORIDA

PENSACOLA, Fla., – West Florida jumped out to a 28-point advantage in the first half and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the game in a 96-85 win over North Alabama Saturday evening in Gulf South Conference men's basketball action. The second straight road loss drops UNA's record to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in GSC play.
 
UNA led 5-4 before the Argonauts took control with a 10-0 run. After a three-point basket by Tavaras Tolliver made the score 14-8, UWF used another 21-2 run to go ahead 35-10 with 8:47 remaining. The home team had its largest lead at 46-18 at the 2:48 mark.
 
A basket at the buzzer by DeAndre McKinnie made the score 48-23 at the break. In the second half, West Florida led by 24 with 10:03 to play. UNA closed the game on a 33-20 run before running out of time.
 
For the game, UWF (2-3 overall, 1-1 GSC) held a 41-35 advantage in rebounding and scored 13 second-chance points. Jelani Pruitt led the Argonauts with 30 points.
 
Three players reached double figures in scoring for UNA. Tolliver, a freshman from Scottsboro, led the way with 17 points. John Fletcher was 3-of-6 from three-point range and finished with 16 points on the night while Dimarrio Jackson scored 13 points for the Lions.
 
UNA will return home for its next GSC game, hosting West Georgia on Thursday, Dec. 10. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
