UNA MEN TOP BUCS FOR KEY GSC ROAD WIN

MEMPHIS, Tenn., – Dimario Jackson scored 21 points while Austin Timms and Bilal Richardson each recorded double-doubles as the University of North Alabama men's basketball team won its second straight Gulf South Conference road game with an 82-64 victory over Christian Brothers. The win puts the Lions in a three-way tie for third place with a 6-3 conference record.
 
Rebounding proved to be an advantage for UNA (9-6 overall). The Lions held a 51-30 advantage in the category and outscored the Bucs 17-4 in second-chance points. Timms led the effort with a career-high 14 boards. The junior from Mooreville, Miss., grabbed six rebounds at the offensive end and was one of three UNA players to score 12 points.
 
After Christian Brothers scored the first basket of the game, North Alabama answered with four straight points and never trailed again. UNA led by as many as 14 points in the first half before taking a 35-29 lead into the break.
 
A 13-7 run to open the second half gave the Lions a 48-36 lead before CBU responded with one final push. The home team used a 17-5 run to tie the game at 53-53 but could never take the lead. UNA converted turnovers on the next two CBU trips into four free throws. A basket by Richardson then made the score 59-53 with 8:50 remaining.
 
Christian Brothers got within four at the 6:04 mark before the Lions scored 15 straight points to put the game out of reach. Jackson, who had a trio of three-point baskets on the day, scored 15 points in the second half. He also finished with a game-high eight assists.
 
Freshman Tavaras Tolliver added 17 points while Timms had 12 points and 14 rebounds and Richardson had 12 points and 12 rebounds. John Fletcher's 12 points rounded out the top scorers for the Lions. Adam Dieball led CBU with a game-high 29 points.
 
UNA will play at Union on Monday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. on the UU campus in Jackson, Tenn.
