FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team shot 58.2 percent from the floor in a 98-57 win over Lane College Saturday in the team's 2018-19 home opener at Flowers Hall. Brittany Panetti led all players with 24 points and 10 rebounds as the Lions improved to 2-0 on the season.

UNA took control early in the contest, outscoring the Dragons 30-11 in the first quarter. Six different UNA players scored in the opening period. The Lions led by as many as 28 points in the second quarter. A free throw by Emma Wallen gave the home team a 48-20 lead with 2:45 remaining in the first half.

North Alabama was 18-of-28 (64.3 percent) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of play and continued to extend its lead over the final two quarters.

The lead eclipsed 30 points in the opening minutes of the third quarter. A basket by Kenysha Coulson made the score 60-29 at the 8:25 mark. Lane got within 28 points midway through the period, but could get no closer. The Lions led 78-46 heading into the final quarter.

UNA emptied the bench in the fourth quarter. Eleven different players saw action. The largest lead of the night came at the 4:54 mark after two free throws by Sarah Suttle made the score 95-49.

Emma Wallen finished with 18 points for the Lions. Coulson added 16 points while Ivy Wallen had six points and 14 assists. Antrice McCoy led Lane with 21 points.

UNA will host Blue Mountain on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
