FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team used a solid defensive performance Tuesday evening in a 70-42 victory over Blue Mountain at Flowers Hall. Emma Wallen scored 14 points as the Lions improved to 3-0 on the season.

Blue Mountain shot 27 percent from the floor and was held to single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters. The Toppers (1-2) connected on just seven field goals in each half and committed 20 turnovers on the night.

After racing out to a 21-9 lead in the first quarter, UNA also struggled on offense. The Lions scored 10 points in the second quarter and took a 31-17 lead into the half.

The third quarter proved to be the best defensive showing for North Alabama. Blue Mountain was 1-of-9 from the floor in the period and did not score until the 1:11 mark. By that time, the Lions had built a 50-17 lead and was able to empty the bench down the stretch.

Ten different players scored in the game for UNA. Brittany Panetti added 13 points while Kenysha Coulson pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. For the game, the Lions held a commanding 53-29 advantage on the boards. Ivy Wallen also recorded six points, eight rebounds and five assists on the night.

UNA will host Stillman on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
