UNA WOMEN DROP OVERTIME DECISION AT XAVIER

CINCINNATI, Ohio – After rallying to tie the game at the end of regulation, Xavier outscored the University of North Alabama women's basketball team 15-2 in overtime to claim a 94-81 home victory Sunday afternoon. The first loss of the season leaves the Lions with a 7-1 record while the Musketeers improve to 6-1 on the year.
 
UNA led 79-74 with 1:05 to play in regulation before Xavier converted two turnovers into five straight points and tie the game. A three-point basket by Aaliyah Dunham with 21.7 seconds remaining tied the game at 79-79. The Lions missed a shot to take the lead to set up the extra period.
 
In overtime, Xavier scored the first seven points and began to pull away. UNA was 1-of-10 from the floor in the extra period, including an 0-for-4 showing from three-point range. The Musketeers went 3-for-4 with a three-pointer and also went 8-of-13 from the free throw line in overtime.
 
Xavier scored the first five points of the game and led by as many as 10 in the first half. The Musketeers led 24-20 at the end of the first quarter before extending their lead to double digits. A three-point basket with 4:36 remaining gave Xavier a 35-25 lead.
 
UNA answered with seven straight points and continued to close the gap in the closing minutes of the half. After two free throws by Olivia Graham gave the Lions their first lead of the game at 39-38 with 1:13 to play, Xavier responded with a three-pointer in the final minute of play.
 
Ivy Wallen then drove the length of the floor and hit a runner before the halftime buzzer to tie the game at 41-41.
 
The Musketeers regained a seven-point lead after out-scoring UNA 27-20 in the third quarter.
 
The Lions, however, rallied again, regaining the lead with a 14-4 run. Emma Wallen's trey with 5:14 remaining gave the Lions a 75-72 lead and put her over 1,000 points for her career.
 
Brittany Panetti led the way for North Alabama with 25 points. Emma Wallen finished with 20 points, pushing her career total to 1,003. Kenysha Coulson rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 12 points while Ivy Wallen flirted with a triple-double after recording 11 assists, nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Na'Teshia Owens led four Xavier players in double figuers with 23 points.
 
UNA will return home to host Martin Methodist on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
