WALLEN’S CAREER NIGHT LEADS LIONS PAST KENNESAW STATE

FLORENCE – A career-high 35 points by Ivy Wallen paced the University of North Alabama women's basketball team Tuesday evening in an 80-55 home win over Kennesaw State. The fourth consecutive victory gives the Lions a 14-2 overall record, with a 5-1 mark in ASUN Conference play.

Wallen, a junior from Anderson, was 13-of-18 from the field, eclipsing the 30-point mark for the second time this season and seventh time in her career. She helped UNA get off to a fast start with 11 points in the first quarter as the Lions grabbed a 19-13 lead.

Kennesaw State cut the lead to two early in the second quarter before UNA used a 13-2 run to grab a 32-19 advantage with 4:23 remaining in the half. Brittany Panetti scored five straight points during the spurt and Darby Madden connected on a three-point basket as the Lions stretched the lead to double digits. A three-pointer by Wallen gave North Alabama a 39-25 lead at the break.

The lead continued to grow in the second half. Another trey by Emma Wallen put UNA ahead 51-30 at the 5:06 mark in the third quarter. The Owls would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

North Alabama led 59-44 early in the fourth quarter before putting the game out of reach with a 27-4 run. KSU made only four shots from the floor in the final period.

Panetti finished with 15 points while Emma Wallen added 10 points for UNA. Ivy Wallen added eight rebounds and five assists on the night. Amani Johnson and Alexis Poole scored 14 points each to lead Kennesaw State (5-13 overall, 1-4 ASUN).

UNA will travel to NJIT on Jan. 27, for its next ASUN game. Tip-off is set for noon (Central) on the Highlanders campus in Newark, N.J.
