KING LEADS LIONS PAST JACKSONVILLE 69-55

FLORENCE – Tavon King scored 24 points to lead the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to a 69-55 victory over Jacksonville Tuesday evening at Flowers Hall. With the win, UNA (10-20 overall) maintains sixth place in the ASUN Conference standings with a 7-8 league record.

It was the second straight 20-point performance for the sophomore from Gates, Tenn., who started for just the fourth time this season. King shot 50 percent from the floor with four three-point baskets. He was also 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

With King having a career-night scoring for the Lions, UNA added a solid defensive effort to shut down the Dolphins. Jacksonville shot 36 percent from the floor and had 16 turnovers. The Lions turned the visitors' miscues into 29 points.

UNA scored the first six points of the game and never trailed on the night. The Lions hit four straight three-pointers during a 14-3 run to take control early. A trey by King with 7:38 remaining in the first half gave the home team a 26-10 lead.

After Jacksonville responded by scoring 11 straight points to pull to within five points, King added a trey and a basket in transition to push the lead back to double digits. A three-pointer by Smith later gave UNA a 37-26 lead at the break.

The Dolphins would get no closer than 10 points over the final 20 minutes of play. After JU closed the gap to 40-30 at the 16:51 mark, King scored eight straight points during an 8-1 run. His two free throws gave the Lions a 48-31 lead with 14:56 remaining.

Jacksonville later got within 11 before UNA extended the lead again. After two free throws by Jamari Blackmon, Kendall Stafford scored on a runner, then added a three-point play to push the lead to 17 points. The largest lead of the night came on a transition three-pointer by Christian Agnew to give UNA a 67-44 lead with 4:55 to play.

Blackmon finished with 12 points for North Alabama. Agnew scored all 11 of his points in the second half. Emanuel Littles pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds while Stafford also reached double figures in the category with 12 boards. For the game, UNA held a 46-40 rebounding advantage.

DeAnthony McCallum led Jacksonville (12-18 overall, 5-10 ASUN) with 11 points.

UNA will close the regular season at home Friday evening against ASUN-leading Lipscomb. Tip-off for the single game is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
