UNA VOLLEYBALL SPLITS OPENING DAY AT BELMONT

Lions face Milwaukee Saturday at 11 AM

NASHVILLE, Tenn., - The University of North Alabama volleyball team opened the 2019 season on Friday with a split in two matches at the Belmont Bruiser Showcase. The Lions knocked off host Belmont 3-1 before dropping a 3-0 decision to Arkansas State to begin the year with a 1-1 mark.
 
Against the host Bruins, Alyssa Dutton's double-double led the way. The freshman from Jasper recorded a match-high 17 kills and added 16 digs in the 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 26-24 victory.
 
As a team, UNA hit .222 for the match and held Belmont to a .186 clip. Morgan Madasz added 12 kills for the Lions while Breylee Linder produced 27 assists. Mariana Trujillo also reached double figures with 19 assists while Mackenzie Sullivan led all players with 24 digs.
 
In the second match, Arkansas State would get off to fast start in every set en route to the 25-14, 25-10, 25-18 sweep. The Redwolves (1-1) held UNA to a .010 team hitting percentage.
 
The Lions were held to just 21 total kills. Madasz had five kills to lead the team while Sullivan picked up 15 digs.
 
UNA will remain in Nashville to wrap up play at the event Saturday against Milwaukee. Match time is set for 11 a.m. at the Curb Center on the Belmont campus.
