FOUR LIONS NAMED ALL-ASUN, POWELL IS OFFENSIVE POY

ATLANTA, Ga.  – University of North Alabama sophomore running back ShunDerrick Powell of Hoxie, Ark., has been named ASUN Conference co-Offensive Player of the Year and heads a list of four members of the UNA offense named to the 2022 All-ASUN Conference Football Team.

 

Joining Powell on the all-conference team, as selected in voting by the league's head coaches, are tight end Corson Swan of Spanish Fort, Ala., and offensive lineman Cam Watson of Madison, Miss., and A.J. Vang of Goddard, Kan.

 

Already named a finalist for the Walter Payton Award as the FCS Player of the Year, Powell is ranked among the FCS leaders in seven categories. He set a UNA single season record with 1,508 rushing yards and scored 18 touchdowns. His 160.1 all-purpose yards per game is also among the nation's best. He rushed for more than 100 yards in seven games this season, including four games with more than 200 yards. He scored 10 of his 18 touchdowns from 30 yards or longer.

 

This season Swan caught 24 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns and finished his career at UNA with 71 catches for 1,092 yards and eight touchdowns. He is just the fourth tight end in Lion football history to have 1,000 career receiving yards. He previously earned Academic All-District honors for the College Sports Communicators.

 

Vang and Watson helped clear the way for a UNA offense that averaged 28.5 points and 388 yards per game this season. Vang was a three-year starter for the Lions and started 25 straight games at UNA.  He also previously earned Academic All-ASUN and Academic All-District honors. Watson also started 25 straight games for the Lions.
