KILLEN, Ala. (October 13, 2023) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team is set to host the MartinFed Invitational at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club this Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 16-17 in Killen, Ala. This will be the fourth of five tournaments that the Lions have scheduled for the fall season.

Sweet Home Alabama: The MartinFed Invitational is the final in-state tournament the Lions will play in this season, with the previous one coming on Sept. 24-26 in the Graeme McDowell Invitational, where the Lions placed sixth of 14 teams. Aside from the shortened 2020-21 season, this season marks the fewest number of tournaments the Lions have played in Alabama since 2017-18 when they also played two.

Lions at Turtle Point: The University of North Alabama has earned a team victory in a tournament hosted at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club on eight separate occasions, with UNA golfers taking home the individual title twice. The Lions last won at Turtle Point last season when they took home the title over nine other teams. The last UNA Individual to win at Turtle Point came in Spring 2019 when Aaron Jackson won the North Alabama Spring Classic.

Graeme McDowell Invitational Recap: North Alabama placed sixth among 14 teams participating in the Graeme McDowell Invitational with a team score of one-under par, 863 total. North Alabama freshman Andrew Ferworn led the team with a six-under par, 210 three-round total. Ferworn has now finished in the top 10 on two separate occasions and has finished as the UNA top finisher twice this season.

The Boys of Fall: The University of North Alabama men's golf team has wrapped up three of the five tournaments scheduled for the fall 2023 season. The Lions will close out the fall slate with the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas on Oct. 20-22. UNA opened the season placing third in the Iowa Fall Classic.

Freshman Phenom: Through two tournaments so far in the fall slate, freshman golfer Andrew Ferworn has already notched two top 10 finishes this season. The Houston, Texas native tied for ninth in the Iowa Fall Classic and placed 10th in the Graeme McDowell Invitational. Ferworn was tied for first in the G-Mac Invitational after tying the UNA Division I record for lowest single round with a 65 in the second round.
